Seiko 5 Sports GMT: Everything We Know So Far

Seiko just announced 3 new GMT watches that will be part of the Seiko 5 Sports lineup: the SSK001, SSK003 and SSK005.

A GMT complication in a Seiko 5 – that’s a first.

To do so, Seiko used the case from the 5 Sports SKX series, and made them a bit thicker. Not that much though: it goes from 13.4 mm to 13.6 mm (still keeping the small lug-to-lug of 46 mm).

To power the new complication, a new movement makes its debut – the Seiko caliber 4R34. It is believed this movement will be available as a third party movement for other manufacturers and micro-brands to use.

The SSK001 has the most conservative design of all: a black dial with a red GMT hand and a black and gray bezel.

The SSK003 sports a blue sunburst dial, a red GMT hand and a black and blue bezel. (Rolex GMT Master II Batman / Batgirl anyone?)

The SSK005 has the most striking colors with a vibrant orange sunburst dial, with the 3 main hands in gold and the GMT hand in black, and a black and gray bezel with gold numerals.

All 3 references come on a new jubilee bracelet, and we hope we’ll see this bracelet on more references in the whole Seiko 5 lineup (not only for the GMT models).

Also, the bezel insert is made of Hardlex, just like the crystal.

These 3 references are not limited editions and will be available for 470 EUR, 475 USD or 875 AUD in July 2022.
